Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients feel a quick sensation when the needle is inserted. This sensation goes away within a second, and a subtle, pleasant sense of energy moving is felt. Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment. Your practitioner will check in with you, continually while inserting needles, and monitor your comfort level. If you are uncomfortable in any way, a procedure will be altered, made as mild as possible, or even substituted for a non-needle technique.

As long as it is performed by a competent practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncturists are required to use disposable needles that are discarded after one use.

  • Pain, recent – this can be knee, back, shoulder, hand, foot, elbow, or other types of pain. Acupuncture and herbs help to relieve pain from acute injuries where inflammation has set in.
  • Pain, chronic – knee, back, shoulder, hand, foot, elbow or other types of pain. Pain is the result of energy (Qi) stagnation or blood stasis.  Chronic pain treatment is designed to relieve the immediate symptoms and, just as importantly, to get to the underlying root cause to eliminate the source of the pain.
  • Digestive disorders – such as acid reflux, IBS, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis and other digestive disorders have been greatly helped by acupuncture and herbs.  Consistent treatment can work to reduce the stress that often causes these systems to flare up.  Underlying causes as well as current symptoms will be addressed.
  • Anxiety – anxiety is attributed to a heart shen disturbance, in other words, the body is not functioning properly due to extreme mental stress.  Acupuncture, herbals and colorpuncture are excellent methodologies to relieve anxiety and bring about a peaceful, calming feeling for the patient.
  • Depression – depression is often associated with the Liver Meridian being depressed.  Acupuncture and herbals are designed to create the smooth flow of energy in this meridian to relieve that sense of stuckness or depression.
  • Panic Attacks  this is often the result of underlying fears which cause real physical symptoms.  Acupuncture, herbs and colorpuncture relieve this by treating the root causes of the fear and the symptoms the patient is experiencing during this panic attack.
  • Fatigue – Low energy levels are often the result of stuck energy.  Acupuncture is very successful in moving this stuck energy.  Herbals are also very helpful in adding or boosting energy if the patient is depleted.
  • Chronic pain – getting to the root cause of the underlying pain is important.  This is often the result of energy stagnation or blood stasis.  Acupuncture and herbs are designed to get to the underlying cause and move the stagnation or stasis that is causing the pain.
  • Insomnia – acupuncture and herbs can greatly relieve insomnia, that depletes our energy for performing life’s tasks.
  • Weak immunity– continued treatment with acupuncture and herbs can strengthen immunity, increase our energy, and help us to fight off exterior diseases.
  • Infertility – Acupuncture and herbs can greatly aid in a woman’s ability to conceive.  Acupuncture has also been proven to greatly increase the success rate of in-vitro fertilization.
  • PMS – symptoms associated with premenstrual conditions are associated with the Liver Meridian, where the Qi is prevented from moving freely.  The free flow of Qi with acupuncture and herbs can greatly relieve these symptoms.
  • Menstrual cramps – are the result of stagnant energy and blood stasis, causing uncomfortable cramping or sharp pain.  Acupuncture and herbs have had great success in eliminating or lessening these symptoms
  • Menopausal symptoms – as we move into the “wise time”, we lose what Chinese medicine calls Kidney Yin.  As our yin is depleted it causes a false heat to rise in our body, therefore causing hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause such as cravings, moodiness, etc.   Acupuncture and herbs can replenish this yin to reduce or eliminate these symptoms.
  • Allergies – acupuncture and herbs can act to build your immunity therefore allowing the body to fight allergies in the environment.  Treatments will also act to open the nasal passages for clearer breathing and reduce sneezing or post nasal drip.
  • Addictions – acupuncture’s 5- needle protocol can act to significantly reduce addictions to smoking, eating, alcohol or drugs.  We recommend that this protocol is used in combination with overall acupuncture treatments, or a behavioral addictions program.
  • Stress management – acupuncture and herbs will do wonders to reduce your overall level of stress.  Family members and friends are often the first to comment on how relaxed and easy going our patients become.  The added benefit is that our patients spread their calm, peaceful energy to their family and co-workers.
  • Other Conditions – The World Health Organization has named over 50 medical disorders that acupuncture has helped.  Everyday new discoveries are brought out in the news about the new known benefits of acupuncture.

There are a number of plans that cover acupuncture. Please check with your insurance company to see about treatment coverage for providers out of network. I will provide a receipt, upon request, for you to submit to your company. I advise checking with them before going through this process.

There are many patients who have no acupuncture insurance who continue to come to treatment regularly.  They view this as an investment in their health and their future.  There is no better investment than to plan for a happy, healthy life now and in the future.

The initial appointment includes an extensive interview and an acupuncture treatment. This gives the practitioner time to access your individual concerns and to provide advice on lifestyle practices to support your healing. The entire session runs approximately 1.5 hrs and the fee is $185. Follow up visits can run 45 minutes to 1 hr and the fee is $95. We also have packages when you are committed to treatment and would like a discount over the time of your treatment plan.

This is always unique to the individual. Generally the longer a condition has been experienced, more treatments will be necessary to move it. Acupuncture is a unique system and works in very different ways than allopathic medicine. Sometimes initial symptoms can be relieved more quickly than expected, and other times relief may take longer. Acupuncture has cumulative benefits over time, so that one treatment builds on another to balance your energy. You will be given a thorough treatment plan based on the best judgment of the practitioner. Most people feel an overall sense of well being, less stressed and more energy, regardless of what their initial symptoms were.

We offer an extensive list of patent Chinese formulas designed for many acute and chronic conditions. In addition we offer custom Chinese herbal formulas designed specifically for your symptoms and overall constitution. It has been our experience, that adding Chinese herbs to the treatment plan facilitates a patient’s progress and helps to reach our treatment goals much faster.

If you find that your schedule changes, we require 24 hrs. notice. Please look ahead at your schedule and give us as much notice as possible. This allows someone else to have the opportunity for the appointment time. If there is less than 24 hrs notice, the patient will be charged a full appointment fee.
